Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.
Trip Summary 25 August 2024:
Due to another weather front, we had some early trips ahead of us. Leaving Kleinbaai Harbour behind us for all our trips we headed into different areas such as the Shallows where we stopped by Marine Dynamics Shark Cage diving vessel Slashfin to get a glimpse of the Bronze whaler sharks and Pearly Beach where we came across several Southern Right whales! African Penguins were either seen out in the open in small rafts or sitting and roaming around on Dyer Island soaking in some sun. As usual, Geyser Rock was super busy with thousands of Cape fur seals either relaxing on the island or swimming around and investigating our vessel in Shark Alley.

As one of only 17 penguin species left in the world (and the only one on the african continent), the african penguin often breed in offshore colonies, such as Dyer Island.
Bronze Whaler Shark Bronze Whaler Shark
The Bronze whaler (also known as Copper sharks) here in Kleinbaai are very curious and interactive. These sharks eat mostly fish, with sardines being one of their favourites.
