Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.
Trip Summary 25 July 2023:
A chilly day out in the bay but with some calmer conditions coming through the area than recently seen. The first trip of the day launched mid-morning and headed out towards the point first, whilst in these deeper waters we were able to have a good scout around the bay and saw the blow of a Southern Right whale in the distance. We were able to watch this lone adult for a while, with some beautiful up-close views along with a bit of fluking seen. On the outer edges of the southern end of our bay, we also came across some Humpback whales, these were three individuals that were joined by a fourth not long after, and oh my were they active! We watched as they fluked, slapped their pectorals, and rolled around each other. To finish off this stunning morning we made a visit to the Islands to see the Cape fur seals and African penguins. On the second trip of the day headed out and made a beeline to the waters to the south in search of whales, and again we were not disappointed, not just one Southern Right whale but multiple seen around the area, we stopped to watch a few of them including a lone adult along with a pair not too far away. We enjoyed watching these calm, gentle giants before finishing our day at the Islands. A outstanding day to be on the sea!
