Marine Big 5 Daily Blog 26 February

Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa – Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.

Trip Summary 26 February 2026:

Today at Marine Dynamics, we started the day by heading out of the bay towards the Danger Point peninsula for the memorial of the infamous HMS Birkenhead, right after we got our whale watching guests to board our vessel for a lovely Marine Big 5 adventure. Within a few minutes into the bay, a few Bryde’s whales were spotted near Danger point with some surfacing to breathe, while another was lunge feeding, leaving everyone astonished. A small pod of common dolphins and a little raft of penguins was observed right after as they cruised through the bay peacefully. Near our local island, we made a short stop near Dyer Island as we couldn’t get close due to the swell. The playful Cape fur seals were having the time of their life in shark alley with the lovely bronze whaler sharks, ending the trip on a good note.
