Marine Big 5 Daily Blog 26 January

Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.

Trip Summary 26 January 2025:

The calm before the storm. Once again we faced perfect conditions before we unfortunately paused our Marine Big 5 adventures for the next two days. We welcomed our guests aboard our whale-watching vessel Dream Catcher and headed along the Danger Point peninsula. At first, we were only accompanied by some pelagic birds and even encountered a juvenile African Penguin. After spending some time in deeper waters we finally spotted the spout of a feeding Bryde’s whale in Pearly Beach! As the whale was surfacing several times we got some amazing looks and were righteously rewarded for our patience. The island system was already visible in the distance and grew bigger and bigger the closer we got. Numerous Cape fur seals were heading into deeper waters and left a few adults and pubs behind. Several of the endangered African Penguins were gathered on the boulders close to the water where we could nicely watch them soaking in the last bit of sun before the clouds covered it for the rest of the day. Anchored within the Shallows, Marine Dynamics Shark cage diving vessel Slashfin was already busy with a great number of Bronze whaler sharks and Short-tailed Stingrays before our arrival. As time had passed it was time to return to Kleinbaai Harbour. We will see you soon!
