Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.
Trip Summary 27 June 2022:
We had two marvellous trips aboard Dream Catcher today! We were able to tick 4/5 of our Marine Big 5 off the list today including; Humpback Whales, Cape Fur seals, Bronze Whaler sharks and the endangered African Penguin.
On our first trip of the day, we were lucky to see a Cape Fur seal predating on a Cuttlefish straight out of the harbour. Not long after, we were thrilled to come across two Humpback Whales in deeper water and then, a larger, active group of five Humpback Whales who put on a lovely display for all those on board!
On our second trip, we also enjoyed some fantastic Humpback Whale action with a total of four whales spotted around the boat!
Of course, our Marine Big 5 adventures would be incomplete without paying a visit to our world-famous Shark Alley which we ventured into on both trips. Here we were able to enjoy our ever-inquisitive 60,000 Cape Fur seal colony on Geyser Rock and the endangered African Penguins on Dyer Island. Not forgetting our shark cage diving vessels where we witnessed some stunning Bronze Whaler shark action as well as a Short-Tail stingray around the boat! A big thank you to all who joined us today, it has been a pleasure having you on board!

What species did we see today?
Bronze Whaler Shark Bronze Whaler Shark
The Bronze whaler (also known as Copper sharks) here in Kleinbaai are very curious and interactive. These sharks eat mostly fish, with sardines being one of their favourites.
Humpback Whale Humpback Whale
One of the best-known whale species, they are renowned for their acrobatic behaviour and complex melodious song as well as extremely long flippers and are a special favourite of Dyer Island Cruises guests and crew alike.
African Penguin African Penguin
As one of only 17 penguin species left in the world (and the only one on the african continent), the african penguin often breed in offshore colonies, such as Dyer Island.
Cape fur seal Cape fur seal
With a local population of 60,000, it's no wonder our guests capture so many photographs of these wonderfully playful marine mammals.
