Marine Big 5 Daily Blog 28 December 2021
Written by December 28 2021
The day once again started partly cloudy but the sky cleared up throughout the day. On the first tour we made stop at the shark cage diving boats and continued through deeper waters to the island. Out in the deep we have been lucky to encounter a Bryde’s whale, which we observed to surface a couple of times. After a closer look at the Cape fur seal and penguins we were heading back to Kleinbaai. On the second trip we were heading straight into the deep in the hope to find the whale again, but unfortunately no luck. We continued to Geyser Rock where we watched the Cape fur seal and also stopped by at Dyer Island for the penguins and on our way home we passed the cage diving boat.

What species did we see today?
African Penguin African Penguin
As one of only 17 penguin species left in the world (and the only one on the african continent), the african penguin often breed in offshore colonies, such as Dyer Island.
Cape fur seal Cape fur seal
With a local population of 60,000, it's no wonder our guests capture so many photographs of these wonderfully playful marine mammals.
Cape Cormorant Cape Cormorant
One of the most famous species of Cormorant in the Western Cape, the Cape Cormorant is well known for it's beautiful turquoise eye and impressive size.
Bronze Whaler Shark Bronze Whaler Shark
The Bronze whaler (also known as Copper sharks) here in Kleinbaai are very curious and interactive. These sharks eat mostly fish, with sardines being one of their favourites.
