Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.
Trip Summary 30 April 2023:
Straight out of Kleinbaai Harbour this afternoon we came across a raft of the endangered African Penguins, Greater Crested Terns, and Cape Cormorants diving through a bait ball! Such a fantastic way to begin our Marine Big 5 tour, there was also a cheeky Cape Fur seal in the mix. We made a pass by Dyer Island before heading into the world-famous Shark Alley. Here, the 60,000 Cape Fur seals on Geyser Rock were a real crowd-pleaser with their antics! Over by our shark cage diving vessel, Slashfin, we were able to witness the beautiful Bronze Whaler sharks around the boat before making our journey back to land!

What species did we see today?
Bronze Whaler Shark Bronze Whaler Shark
The Bronze whaler (also known as Copper sharks) here in Kleinbaai are very curious and interactive. These sharks eat mostly fish, with sardines being one of their favourites.
African Penguin African Penguin
As one of only 17 penguin species left in the world (and the only one on the african continent), the african penguin often breed in offshore colonies, such as Dyer Island.

With a local population of 60,000, it's no wonder our guests capture so many photographs of these wonderfully playful marine mammals.
