Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa – Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.
Trip Summary 31 December 2025:
As the year comes to an end, we had another foggy day out at sea today, but that didn’t stop our amazing crew from finding some incredible marine life. Our luck began in deeper waters, where our trips managed to spot the shy and elusive Bryde’s whale cruising along and going about its day. As we moved into Shark Alley, the Cape fur seals were full of character, some playing in the water while others lazily rested on the piece of wood from the ancient shipwreck. Around Dyer Island, African penguins were spotted tucked away between the boulders, almost hidden as large numbers of cormorants camouflaged them along the shoreline. Although navigating through the fog towards the shallows was a bit challenging, we safely made our way there, where our trips were rewarded with a great view of the bronze whaler sharks gliding through the water, ending the year in a fin-tastic way….till we meet again Happy New Year’s Everyone!

The Bronze whaler (also known as Copper sharks) here in Kleinbaai are very curious and interactive. These sharks eat mostly fish, with sardines being one of their favourites.

The mysterious Bryde's whales visit the Dyer Island area throughout the year, with most sightings occurring during summer into winter.
