Whale of a time! Marine Big 5 Daily Blog
Written by October 24 2021
We truly had a whale of a time on all three trips with fantastic sightings of some southern right whales. We had a couple of cow-calf pairs in the bay we spend some time with throughout the day and now as the calves are getting older, they also quite curious and sometimes approach our vessel to have a closer look. On all three trips we also spotted some groups of the endangered African Penguin out at sea and plenty of Cape Fur seals on Geyser Rock. On the first and second tour we have also been lucky to stop by the shark cage diving boats to see some bronze whaler sharks.

As one of only 17 penguin species left in the world (and the only one on the african continent), the african penguin often breed in offshore colonies, such as Dyer Island.

With a local population of 60,000, it's no wonder our guests capture so many photographs of these wonderfully playful marine mammals.
Southern Right Whale Southern Right Whale
Southern right whales attract thousands of visitors every year to experience these gentle giants off the South African coast.
Bronze Whaler Shark Bronze Whaler Shark
The Bronze whaler (also known as Copper sharks) here in Kleinbaai are very curious and interactive. These sharks eat mostly fish, with sardines being one of their favourites.
