2 Whales Species In One Day! Marine Big 5 Daily Blog 22 June
Written by June 22 2022
Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.
Trip Summary 22 June 2022:
With a beautiful start to the morning, no wind and a little swell, we headed out from Kleinbaai Harbour, along the coastline, to see what we could find. Over at the shark cage diving vessels, we were lucky to see a short-tailed stingray and the iconic great white shark! Carrying on into deeper waters, we encountered a lot of bird life including sooty shearwaters, cape gannets, various terns and even a giant petrel. Geyser rock was ever so inviting with cape fur seals jumping in and out of the water. The endangered colony of African penguins on dyer island were out soaking up some sun before we headed towards Danger Point to scan the area for whales. Not long after looking, we had a captivating encounter with 5 Humpback whales travelling in the deeper waters. On our way back towards the Harbour, a raft of African penguins was spotted and this was a magnificent ending to our Marine Big 5 trip.
