A Beautiful Way To Start The Morning, 5 November 2019
Written by November 5 2019
A beautiful start to an early morning, the area was bustling with marine life from the sightings of our sharks and our gentle giants to the magnificent bird displays. We started the morning off at the cage diving vessels and before long, we had our first views of a Bronze Whaler. Just as we thought we got some great views of this amazing creature, we were surprised with a visit from an astonishing Great White shark! After moving off, we quickly spotted our Southern Right Whale mom with her calf, they were very calm and stayed at the surface for a little while before we headed off towards our Islands. Geyser Rock was a hive of activity today with the seals being in and out of the water and our African Penguins were seemingly having a meeting of sorts, all of them sitting around one boulder. Seeing all our marine wildlife is always a great way to start the morning.
What species did we see today?

The Bronze whaler (also known as Copper sharks) here in Kleinbaai are very curious and interactive. These sharks eat mostly fish, with sardines being one of their favourites.

Gracious, beautiful, misunderstood - three words used by guests of Dyer Island Cruises after witnessing South Africa's most infamous marine species: The Great White Shark.

With a local population of 60,000, it's no wonder our guests capture so many photographs of these wonderfully playful marine mammals.

As one of only 17 penguin species left in the world (and the only one on the african continent), the african penguin often breed in offshore colonies, such as Dyer Island.
