A Whale Tale!, 31 October 2019
Written by October 31 2019
What an awesome day out at sea! We were lucky to have seen 3 of our marine big 5 today on all four of our trips. Our Southern Right whale juveniles were quite active, showing us their fins and tails throughout the day and even breaching on some occasions! We had some great sights of the beautiful Bronze Whaler Sharks in front of the cage diving boat and got to see quite a few different individuals there. Our seals… I can’t mention this enough but they are always a lovely stop, you cannot look at one and be unhappy. They were all out and about in the water because of the heat on the island and some lazing around as usual because they just can. Every day out at sea and seeing these animals takes my breath away time and time again.
What species did we see today?
Bronze Whaler Shark Bronze Whaler Shark
The Bronze whaler (also known as Copper sharks) here in Kleinbaai are very curious and interactive. These sharks eat mostly fish, with sardines being one of their favourites.
Cape fur seal Cape fur seal
With a local population of 60,000, it's no wonder our guests capture so many photographs of these wonderfully playful marine mammals.
Southern Right Whale Southern Right Whale
Southern right whales attract thousands of visitors every year to experience these gentle giants off the South African coast.
Bank Cormorant Bank Cormorant
Often enjoying a broad diet including klipfish, rock lobster and more, the increasing rarety of the Bank Cormorant makes every moment we see them even more special.
