Bryde’s whale! Marine Big 5 Daily Blog
Written by December 2 2021
After launching from Kleinbaai harbour we were heading once again down the coast and towards the shark cage diving boats where we got to see a couple of bronze whaler sharks. On our way to the island, we had a look out for some wildlife beyond a reef system but it has been rather quiet towards Pearly Beach so we continued to the Cape fur seal colony. But as we got to Shark Alley the sky just opened up and it was pouring down with rain while watching the Cape fur seals and penguins, we couldn’t get any photos but still enjoyed the sight of the animals. On the way to Kleinbaai, the weather cleared up again and we have been lucky to spot a Bryde’s whale mother and calf pair.

What species did we see today?

As one of only 17 penguin species left in the world (and the only one on the african continent), the african penguin often breed in offshore colonies, such as Dyer Island.
Cape fur seal Cape fur seal
With a local population of 60,000, it's no wonder our guests capture so many photographs of these wonderfully playful marine mammals.
Bronze Whaler Shark Bronze Whaler Shark
The Bronze whaler (also known as Copper sharks) here in Kleinbaai are very curious and interactive. These sharks eat mostly fish, with sardines being one of their favourites.
