Fun on Whale Whisperer, 24 January 2020
Written by January 27 2020

A penguin chilling with some seals to hear the fishy details of the past week.
Its always fun going to sea with our smaller whale watching vessel ‘Whale Whisperer’. The fact that is so close to the water truly gives you a full on close-up experience with any wildlife we encounter. And on this day we got just that, we spent some time at the shark boats and got to see some bronze whaler sharks after which we went to Shark Alley and were surprised to find an African Penguin amongst the seals on Geyser Rock! After ending off the tour in with another run through the shallows looking for those elusive humpback dolphins but they seemed to have gone on a weekend fish fest to the next bay over but its always nice to just be on sea, breathing some fresh air and soaking up some wildlife!
What species did we see today?
Bronze Whaler Shark Bronze Whaler Shark
The Bronze whaler (also known as Copper sharks) here in Kleinbaai are very curious and interactive. These sharks eat mostly fish, with sardines being one of their favourites.
African Penguin African Penguin
As one of only 17 penguin species left in the world (and the only one on the african continent), the african penguin often breed in offshore colonies, such as Dyer Island.
Cape fur seal Cape fur seal
With a local population of 60,000, it's no wonder our guests capture so many photographs of these wonderfully playful marine mammals.
Cape Cormorant Cape Cormorant
One of the most famous species of Cormorant in the Western Cape, the Cape Cormorant is well known for it's beautiful turquoise eye and impressive size.
