Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.
Trip Summary 01 September 2023:
After one day on land, we were happy to get our sea legs back on! The wind and the swell were still out there but the sun was shining and the animals were waiting for us. We found Southern Right whales almost as soon as we left the harbour and after headed to see some seals and had another spout in the distance we went to investigate to find two Humpback whales slapping their tails around. We, then, headed to the Shallows to see some Bronze Whaler sharks, and then back to land we went. The second trip o the day encountered a Southern Right whale pair not too long after we launched from Kleinbaai harbour, this pair was moving quite quickly so we did not spend much time with them. Our next stop was in the Shallows where we were bale to see some Bronze Whaler sharks at our sister company, Marine Dynamics. Continuing our way through our bay and to the next we came across more Southern Right whales and were treated to the amazing view of a breaching individual, once we were close enough to this whale it took a dive and did not appear for us again. After spending some time with the Cape fur seals, we were on our way through the Alley when the tell-tale sign of more whales was seen with multiple blows seen in the deeper waters behind the islands. This happened to be a pod of four active Humpback whales that gave us some stunningly close views.
Both of our trips were full of animal sightings and full of adventure!

The Bronze whaler (also known as Copper sharks) here in Kleinbaai are very curious and interactive. These sharks eat mostly fish, with sardines being one of their favourites.
