Marine Big 5 Daily Blog 04 January
Written by January 4 2022

Today’s weather was just perfect to head out to sea. Just outside Kleinbaai we stopped the boat to have a closer look at a sunfish basking just below the surface. Further along the way at the shark cage diving boats we saw a couple of bronze whaler sharks. At the island we stopped first at Dyer Island to see the penguins and later passed Geyser Rock to see the Cape Fur seals. After a cruise through deeper waters and a very brief look at a shy Bryde’s whale we saw thousands of Cape Cormorant passing us.

As one of only 17 penguin species left in the world (and the only one on the african continent), the african penguin often breed in offshore colonies, such as Dyer Island.
