Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.
Trip Summary 06 November 2024:
It was a sunny but slightly windy day with great sightings of southern right whales. Plenty of whales are still along the Southern Cape coastline and haven’t started their annual migration into the Southern Ocean yet. Most of our tours began with a visit to the shark cage diving boats in the shallows where we saw multiple Bronze Whaler sharks. Further along the coast close to the small town of Pearly Beach we saw the first spouts of the day and saw multiple southern right whales, we observed these gentle giants for a while before heading further off the coast to Geyser Rock and Dyer Island. Sadly the African Penguin is now a critically endangered species and it can be tricky to view them on some days but today we were lucky and saw some posing on the rocks close to the water’s edge. Quite a bit of fighting was going on at Geyser Rock, the big bulls were busy gathering their harem of females.
