Marine Big 5 Daily Blog 10 February

Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa – Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.

Trip Summary 10 February 2026:

After a stormy day yesterday, we are back and ready for a calm day out at sea! Leaving Kleinbaai Harbour behind us, it did not take us long to find some of the endangered Indian Ocean humpback dolphins close to the natural estuary of our area. After we got some looks at this elusive species, we spotted a few Bryde’s whales in our bay feeding on some schooling fish! The individuals surfaced on a regular which offered some nice and close-up looks! Continuing towards the Shark cage diving boats, we got some quick looks at the Bronze whaler sharks. The critically endangered African Penguins were nicely seen as rafts in the open. Our Cape fur seals were seen throughout the entire day, either hunting themselves or relaxing on Geyser Rock and the cool waters of Shark Alley.
