Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa – Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.
Trip Summary 11 September 2025:
We had a few trips heading out today, starting under grey skies with a bit of swell, though conditions slowly calmed as the day went on. The morning began with slightly tricky sightings, but we were fortunate to come across some Southern right whales and even a Bryde’s whale. Later in the day, a bit of excitement picked up when Humpback whales made an appearance. Our route took us to Geyser Rock, where Cape fur seals could be seen both playing in the water and lying lazily on the island. Over at Dyer Island, a few African penguins were camouflaged among the cormorants, though their bright white colouration gave them away. Finally, we cruised through the shallows for a look at the local Bronze Whaler sharks.
