Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.
Trip Summary 14 February 2025:
What a beautiful day out at sea! Beautiful conditions enabled us to get some great looks at our marine wildlife. Leaving Kleinbaai Harbour behind us we headed straight towards Danger Point. Before we could even make it past the peninsula we have already spotted a Bryde’s whale! Staying close to the boat and coming up several times we were able to watch it with ease. After some time was spent with the whale we decided to continue our trip towards the island system. Thousands of Cape fur seals were encountered on Geyser Rock before they were ready to head out for some breakfast. As the swell was building up ahead of Dyer Island we could unfortunately not get too close to the island. Luckily we spotted a small raft of the endangered African Penguins on their way out! Last but not least, we headed to Marine Dynamics Shark cage diving vessel Slashfin, which was anchored in their usual anchor spot within the Shallows. Short-tailed stingrays plus Bronze whaler sharks were making an appearance!

The Bronze whaler (also known as Copper sharks) here in Kleinbaai are very curious and interactive. These sharks eat mostly fish, with sardines being one of their favourites.
