Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.
Trip Summary 18 October 2024:
Another beautiful spring day with great sightings of the Southern Right whales! On all our tours today we were lucky to see these beautiful and gentle giants in the coastal waters between Kleinbaai and Pearly Beach. During the tours, we also passed the Shark cage diving boats in the Shallows and saw a couple of Bronze Whaler sharks passing in front of their and our boat. Further out in the bay at Dyer Island and Geyser Rock, we saw a variety of coastal seabirds including the endangered African Penguin. Shark Alley and Geyser Rock were packed with thousands of Cape fur seals. Day by day more of the males are moving in and fighting for the females and their spot on the island, the big bulls are only seen during their breeding season from the end of October through to the end of December. Our last tour of the day was very lucky to also see a breaching humpback whale on our way to the harbour, we couldn’t ask for a better ending of the tour.

As one of only 17 penguin species left in the world (and the only one on the african continent), the african penguin often breed in offshore colonies, such as Dyer Island.
