Marine Big 5 Daily Blog 27 January

Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.

Trip Summary 27 January 2023:

We had a beautiful day out on the sea today with sightings of a range of marine mammals, fish, and seabirds. We started the trip along the coastline before we headed to the Shallows to join our sister company, Marine Dynamics, which was having some great success with shark sightings for the morning. We spent some time enjoying views of the Bronze whaler shark as they swam along the surface waters. We then moved into the deeper waters surrounding our bay where we were lucky enough to encounter some Bryde’s whales, two individuals were seen, unfortunately, both were quite shy, but even so, we were given a few lovely views as they broke the waters’ surface. At the islands, we enjoyed watching the Cape fur seals of Geyser Rock and the African Penguins of Dyer Island as well as some other seabirds, such as a Giant Petrel that was seen gliding around the islands.
