Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.
Trip Summary 27 March 2022:
The weather was beautiful this morning as we set out on our Marine Big 5 trip. The cruise along the coastal waters led us to our first stop at Slashfin; our shark cage diving sister company in the hopes of spotting some sharks. Our Bronze Whaler sharks were the first of our species to be seen as they glided past a cage full of divers. Further out, we spotted a few birds such as Terns and a Storm Petrel. Shark Alley was bubbling with seals from Geyser Rock having their daily swim after which we took a stop at Dyer Island to have a look at our African Penguin.

The Bronze whaler (also known as Copper sharks) here in Kleinbaai are very curious and interactive. These sharks eat mostly fish, with sardines being one of their favourites.

As one of only 17 penguin species left in the world (and the only one on the african continent), the african penguin often breed in offshore colonies, such as Dyer Island.

White-breasted Cormorant is the largest African cormorant and they have an iconic white chest, it is a favourite for many of our repeat visitors, and professional wildlife photographers.

With a local population of 60,000, it's no wonder our guests capture so many photographs of these wonderfully playful marine mammals.
