Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.
Trip Summary 28 July 2023:
We were back on the sea again today after a day off due to some not-so-nice weather and what a whale of a day it was! The first trip made its way straight to the western edge of our bay to the deeper waters but on the way happened across a Bryde’s whale mother and calf pair before we also found a Southern Right whale mother and calf, we watched from a distance and did not stay with them for long as we did not want to disturb the pairs too much. In the deeper waters we came across a pair of adult Humpback whales along with a number of Albatross, we enjoyed some time with these whales as they came up and down from the surface, fluked, and even said goodbye to us with two breaches. We finished our trip with a visit to the Islands to have a closer look at the Cape fur seals. The second trip of the day took a little bit longer to find some whales however towards the south-western edge we saw quite a few blows, these mostly seemed to be from Humpback whales and whilst we tried to view a few that were a tad shy however not too far away we came across a pair of adult Southern Right whales that calming cruised along the surface near to us. We enjoyed watching them for some time before also finishing this trip at the Islands.
