Misty morning at sea! Marine Big 5 Daily Blog 22 December
Written by December 22 2021
This morning we had some drizzle and mist at sea, which cleared up a little later. At the shark cage diving boats, we had some great sightings of bronze whaler sharks, while at Geyser Rock we saw a lot of Cape fur seals. Closer to Dyer Island we manged to see a couple of the endangered African Penguin as well as Cape Cormorants.

What species did we see today?

With a local population of 60,000, it's no wonder our guests capture so many photographs of these wonderfully playful marine mammals.

The Bronze whaler (also known as Copper sharks) here in Kleinbaai are very curious and interactive. These sharks eat mostly fish, with sardines being one of their favourites.

As one of only 17 penguin species left in the world (and the only one on the african continent), the african penguin often breed in offshore colonies, such as Dyer Island.
