Marine Big 5 Daily Blog 14 November

We had some incredible sightings of southern right whales on both our tours. We encountered two southern right whale mothers and their calves in the Pearly Beach area, in the morning they had a super close look at tour vessel and in the afternoon one of the calves was playful and breaching several times while mother was slapping her flipper onto the surface. We also saw the bronze whaler sharks as well as Cape fur seals and the endangered African Penguin.

What species did we see today?

As one of only 17 penguin species left in the world (and the only one on the african continent), the african penguin often breed in offshore colonies, such as Dyer Island.

The Bronze whaler (also known as Copper sharks) here in Kleinbaai are very curious and interactive. These sharks eat mostly fish, with sardines being one of their favourites.
