Whale of a time! Marine Big 5 Daily Blog
Written by April 12 2021
Today we were heading straight towards Danger Point and out into the deeper water where we have encountered a super friendly Bryde’s whale. These whales are usually known to be shy and elusive but this whale was very relaxed around our vessel and was showing off by turning around so we could see the belly and fluke. After having spent time with the whale and seeing it surface many times, we continued to the Cape Fur seal colony and Dyer Island where we also spotted lots of Giant Petrel. On our way home we stopped at the shark cage diving boat and slowly cruised along the coast back towards Kleinbaai.
What species did we see today?

As one of only 17 penguin species left in the world (and the only one on the african continent), the african penguin often breed in offshore colonies, such as Dyer Island.

With a local population of 60,000, it's no wonder our guests capture so many photographs of these wonderfully playful marine mammals.
