Breach, Breach And Another Breach! Marine Big 5 Daily Blog 26 June
Written by June 26 2022
Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.
Trip Summary 26 June 2022:
What an incredible day full of marine activity! Soon after leaving the harbour, we were fortunate to encounter two Shy Albatross flying around the boat as well as a lot of bird activity from the likes of White Chinned Petrels, Sooty Shearwaters, Subantarctic Skuas and Cape Cormorants. We did not wait long before seeing our first spout as we encountered our first two humpback whales. While watching this pair, a spectacular sighting of a mother and calf Southern Right Whale amazed the guests and crew alike as we welcomed the first Southern Right Whale calf of the season into our bay. Excitement ensued as we left the mother and calf because we spotted a Humpback Whale breach in the distance! And again… And again… this wild activity carried on for a couple of minutes and we were all left speechless. After some beautiful and exciting views of these whales, we carried on our journey towards the shark cage diving vessels where we were able to spot a short-tailed stingray, a bronze whaler shark and even the Great White shark! A short stop in Shark alley gave us amazing entertainment from the residents on geyser rock with seals jumping in and out of the water while on Dyer Island, we were able to spot a few of the endangered African Penguin. What an incredible day out at sea!
