Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa – Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.
Trip Summary 12 September 2025:
The sun is shining bright in Gansbaai today! Due to the continuous spring tide, we once again either launched or returned to Gansbaai Harbour. All our trips were lucky to have spotted Southern Right whales throughout the day. One of the trips even spotted our elusive resident, the Bryde’s whale! Thousands of Cape fur seals were sunbathing on Geyser Rock while slowly but surely the first bulls were arriving just in time for the upcoming mating season. The critically endangered African Penguins were spotted between boulders on Dyer Island. A stop by the local Shark cage diving boats gave us a glimpse of not just our beloved Bronze whaler sharks but also of a Broadnose sevengill shark! Once again, thanks everyone for joining our Marine Big 5 adventures.

The Bronze whaler (also known as Copper sharks) here in Kleinbaai are very curious and interactive. These sharks eat mostly fish, with sardines being one of their favourites.
