Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.
Trip Summary 02 October 2022:
We had another beautiful day at sea with some great encounters. We launched from Kleinbaai harbour in the early morning starting off our four-trip day. Our trips today were fortunate to have encountered 5 of the marine big 5 on two of our trips; with a sighting of the endangered Indian Ocean humpback dolphin on the first trip and a large pod of common dolphins on the third. All our trips had some amazing encounters with a number of Southern Right whales in the bay, the mom-calf pairs were very active throughout the day. Our stops at Slashfin, gave us a look at plenty of active bronze whaler sharks around the boat. We had a great time observing the Cape fur seals on Geyser Rock, especially those in the water which gave us some wonderful acrobatics. We also stopped by Dyer Island to get a look at some African Penguins which were scattered amongst some Cormorants. What a spectacular day!

Bronze Whaler Shark Bronze Whaler Shark
The Bronze whaler (also known as Copper sharks) here in Kleinbaai are very curious and interactive. These sharks eat mostly fish, with sardines being one of their favourites.

With a local population of 60,000, it's no wonder our guests capture so many photographs of these wonderfully playful marine mammals.
Southern Right Whale Southern Right Whale
Southern right whales attract thousands of visitors every year to experience these gentle giants off the South African coast.
African Penguin African Penguin
As one of only 17 penguin species left in the world (and the only one on the african continent), the african penguin often breed in offshore colonies, such as Dyer Island.
