Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.
Trip Summary 04 September 2022:
We had a wonderful trip this morning before the wind begins to pick up! After departing the harbour we headed straight towards our shark cage diving vessel, Slashfin. Here we witnessed some beautiful Bronze Whaler shark action around the boat! While by Slashfin we were thrilled to spot some whale spouts in the distance. Upon investigation, we were pleasantly surprised to come across a cow-calf pair of Southern Right whales! Our guests and crew alike were enthralled by these incredible animals and we stayed with them for a short while before moving off, so as to not encroach too much on this young one. After this, we made our way toward our island systems. On our way to Dyer Island, we stopped by a raft of the endangered African Penguins out on the water. We were also fortunate to spot them on land at Dyer Island along with many other bird species including Cape Cormorants, Egyptian Geese and Swift Terns! In Shark Alley, we enjoyed the ever-inquisitive 60,000-strong Cape Fur seal colony on Geyser Rock. After this, we began our journey back towards the harbour. Certainly not a bad way to round off the week! A very big thank you to all of our lovely guests who joined us today, it was a pleasure having you on board!
