Southern right whales and more! Marine Big 5 Daily Blog
Written by September 4 2021

This morning we had a gap in the weather and were heading towards Pearly Beach in the hope to find some whales, but we have been lucky at spotted a female with her calf shortly into our tour. They were very relaxed alongside our vessel and we got very exited to see that the female was brindle. Next, we were heading to the Geyser Rock to see the Cape Fur seal colony and also spotted some penguins just outside Shark Alley and Dyer Island. On our way home we stopped at Slashfin the shark cage diving boat from our sister company and got to see Bronze Whaler sharks too.
What species did we see today?

As one of only 17 penguin species left in the world (and the only one on the african continent), the african penguin often breed in offshore colonies, such as Dyer Island.

The Bronze whaler (also known as Copper sharks) here in Kleinbaai are very curious and interactive. These sharks eat mostly fish, with sardines being one of their favourites.
