Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.
Trip Summary 22 September 2023:
We had another fascinating day at sea with a huge variety of wildlife. Just outside the harbor, we spotted several right whales, mostly mothers and their calves. On the second tour, we also spotted a group of the endangered Indian Ocean humpback dolphins outside Kleinbaai. Throughout the bay we manged to see even more right whales, how lucky are we! Today was also a great day for all the birders on board, with plenty of Shy Albatross, White-chinned Petrels and Giant Petrels not far from the coast. At the island we saw some penguins and were lucky to witness a penguin release on the third tour of the day, we released five penguins that have been at the local seabird rehabilitation center, African Penguin and Seabird Sanctuary.
During our tours, we also cruised through some coastal water to see the Bronze whaler sharks at the shark cage diving boats.
What a great day at sea!
