Whale Watching near Cape Town, South Africa Welcome to Gansbaai, home of the Marine Big 5.
Trip Summary 08 January 2023:
Dream Catcher launched bright and early this morning for her one trip with the sun shining and a slight easterly wind blowing through the bay. The tour started with the boat making its way along the coast and keeping an eye out inshore for any marine wildlife before moving into the Shallows where the shark cage diving takes place. Here the tour met one of the boats and the group was able to view the Bronze whaler shark. The boat then moved further out through the edge of the bay quickly stopping to have a look at the extensive kelp forest before heading into deeper waters to see if any dolphins or whales happened to be in the area for the day and were lucky to encounter two separate Bryde’s whales. The Cape fur seals of Geyser Rock were seen in abundance as they sun-bathed on the island and cooled off in the water of the alley and a number of African Penguins were seen on Dyer Island. The tour then took to the deeper western edge of the bay towards Danger Point before making our way back to the harbour.
